Good Night For Irish Sides

Last night was a good night for the Irish sides in action in the Celtic League with both Connacht and Ulster seeing off their opposition. Ulster destroyed Glasgow by 30 points to 3 in Ravenhill while an Eric Elwood penalty was the difference between Connacht and their opposition Edinburgh.

Connacht Slip Up At Home

Llanelli’s charge up the Celtic League table continued when they beat Connacht in Athlone last night. Connacht have been slipping down the table recently and a poor first half performance last night ensured that they dropped more points again. The only upsides for Connacht were that Ulster lost also and the losing bonus point they picked up means that they stay ahead of Ulster by two points.

Connacht will return to Celtic League action on Friday night when they take on Llanelli. This will be the players first match in 3 weeks since none of the side were involved in the Six Nations.

Connacht ended their recent run of poor form with an important win over the Borders last night at Netherdale. Connacht are now back in pole position for the playoff European Cup place thanks to Edinburgh who beat their rivals for that position, Cardiff Blues.

Connacht Squad For Trip To The Borders

Connacht have named a squad of 22 for this Friday’s clash with Borders in Netherdale. Matt Lacey will miss the game with a leg injury, while James Downey (Collarbone) is on the long-term injured list. Peter Bracken and Brendan O’Connor come into the squad.

Connacht’s hopes of getting the Celtic League play-off spot for the Heineken Cup took a dent today when their leading rivals for the spot, Cardiff Blues, beat them by 18 points to 8 in Galway to move within one point of Connacht in the League.

Sale have switched their home European Challenge Cup semi-final in order to prevent a clash with Stockport County who they share a ground with. Connacht had initially been drawn to travel to Sale for the first-leg but this will now not happen until the second leg.

Connacht have continued their impressive form in the European Challenge Cup with another win over Grenoble in the second leg of their quarter final. Grenoble were outclassed by 19 points to 3, sending Connacht through with a 45 points to 24 aggregate score.

Connacht have named a provisional squad of 27 for this Saturday’s European Challenge Cup Quarter Final second leg tie with Grenoble at the Sportsground. Connacht will take a 26-21 lead into the game.
