Ireland See Off Determined England
No one expected England to lie down when they came to Landsdowne Road. A tough, physical game was expected and that’s exactly what happened. Ireland started well but a poor defence allowed Martin Corry to go over for the first try of the game, but Ireland didn’t lie down, they were soon back in the game due to the boot of Ronan O’Gara.
In the Second half England moved into the lead but then great backline movement between Denis Hickie and Geordan Murphy resulted in Irish captain Brian O’Driscoll going over for Ireland’s only try of the game.
England never gave up but Ireland’s defence was resolute right up until the end, to give them their second victory over the English in as many years.
