A Great Weekend For Irish Rugby
This was a massive weekend for Irish Rugby. Ireland beat South Africa for the first time in over 30 years in a thrilling encounter at Landsdowne Road. In the Celtic League, two out of the three provinces in action won, with Leinster losing out narrowly to Llanelli today.
With all eyes on the International team it’s easy to forget the provinces but Ulster ended their recent string of losses with a victory over The Borders, Munster, heavily depleted due to the international saw off one of the better sides in the Celtic League, The Dragons. Leinster were unlucky against Llanelli, but considering the roster of players missing, they still put in an impressive performance.
But back to the International match. It was a fantastic day, and will definitely be remembered as one of the great Irish rugby victories. There may be dispute over the manner of the victory, but there’s no doubt that Ireland weren’t the better team. A quick glance at the statistics tells you that. Ireland will move on to next week when they’ll face the USA. Then the following week they’ll face stiffer opposition in the form of Argentina.
