Connacht lose to Cardiff

Connacht last night travelled to Cardiff, where they lost by 31 points to 6 to the Welsh side. Cardiff may have had an impressive score-line to go home with, but the late tries flatter them in what has to be considered a poor performance against Connacht.

Connacht despite losing Matt Mostyn early on with an injury put on all the pressure in the the early stages of the match, but Cardiff soon began to threaten the Connacht line, but the resolute Irish defense stopped their attacks with a single Nick MacLeod penalty being Cardiff’s only score.. Finally Cardiff began to spread the ball to the wings where Cardiff began to make an impact, with Tom Shanklin opening the scoring. MacLeod and Connacht out-half Paul Warwick exchanged another penalty each before the interval to make the score 13-3 at the interval.

Cardiff came out with more agressively in the second half and Rhys Williams wne over for what looked like a try, but the final pass was ruled forward denying Williams the try. MacLeod did slot over another two penalties, but the match remained very scrappy.

Finally Cardiff made the breakthrough they were looking for with Rhys Williams scoring directly under the posts which was converted easily by MacLeod. Despite losing second-row Robert Sidoli to the sin-bin for ten minutes, the home side managed to score twice more to secure the bonus point.
