Gaffney Leaves Out Internationals

Yesterday Munster Fans were delighted to hear the news that Irish internationals David Wallace, Frankie Sheehan and John Hayes would be available for selection for the Munster V Connacht match on Saturday night. The pack had been highlighted by a number of commentators as a weak spot for Munster and the addition of these three players looked like it would strengthen the side considerably.

However it seems that Alan Gaffney has decided not to utilise these players. Gaffney today named an unchanged pack for the match on Saturday and in the backline he has decided to move Shaun Payne into second centre with John Kelly replacing him on the wing. There is no place in the side for Mike Mullins with Rob Henderson coming back into the side on the bench. New signing Mike Storey hasn’t been named on the squad either with James Storey losing his spot at first centre to Jason Holland.

Munster (V Connacht): C. Cullen, J. Kelly, S. Payne, J. Holland, A. Horgan, P. Burke, M. Prendergast; F. Roche, J. Flannery, G. McIlwham; S. O’Connor, T. Hogan; S. Keogh, J. Williams (captain), D. Leamy.

Replacements: J Blaney, E McGovern, D Ryan, J O’Connor, E Reddan, J Storey, R Henderson.
