Ireland’s Under 21’s teams hopes of becoming the first Northern Hemisphere side to win an Under 21’s World Cup, were shattered by an impressive performance from the defending Champions New Zealand.

In the first half Ireland looked under pressure throughout, with some great running play from the ‘Baby Blacks’. Ireland however, thanks to the boot of Tournament top scorer Gareth Steedson managed to stay in touch, and despite New Zealand scoring three tries, Ireland only trailed by 14 points.

Early in the second half the sides exchanged penalties again, and Ireland’s deficit remained the same until 2 late New Zealand tries, sealed their victory.
