Game Over For Ulster
The doubters of the Celtic League, will be left doubting themselves, after what was an amazing night of rugby.
With the night starting off there were three teams still in contention for the title, Llanelli, Ulster and The Dragons. With Ulster facing Llanelli and The Dragons travelling to play Leinster, there was plenty of Irish interest in the match-ups.
There isn’t much point in boring anyone with the countless Mathematical permutations that were possible, but at half time, with Ulster drawing with Llanelli and The Dragons leading Leinster, The Dragons were in line to be crowned Champions.
The second half saw a huge performance from a Leinster side who’ve had a difficult week, with the constant questions over the future of coach, Gary Ella. Leinster eventually won out by 56 points to 39, giving Ella a bit of breathing space, as Leinster now are no longer the worst placed Irish team.
This is due to the fact that Connact followed up their loss last week to Munster, with another poor performance that saw them go down by 20 points to 3 in Galway to Celtic Warriors.
Munster won out reasonably comfortably by 18 points to 10, in Scotland against bottom of the table Borders. So with the Dragons out of contention it was simply who would win between Llanelli and Ulster.
Llanelli came out in the second half with some early jitters but soon settled down, and a brace of points saw them stretch their lead to 14 points. This seemed to finally spur Ulster into playing some quality rugby but a solitary try for Ulster wasn’t enough despite some desperate defense from Llanelli at the death. Llanelli won the match 23-16 giving them the match and the title.
