Celtic League Future Decided

The Celtic League Association has announced their plans for the future of the competion. There had been a great deal of speculation recently as to the future of the competition with the Irish and Scottish sides, apparently unhappy with the number of games to be played. The new set-up however doesn’t feature a substantial reduction in the number of games to be played.

The new format sees the current league structure remain the same, with the league starting in late August or early September and finishing in April. The top eight finishers will the compete for the Celtic Cup which will take place over three weekends in May.

The Celtic League Association have also announced that the winners of the Celtic League will face the winners of the Zurich Premiership at the beginning of the next season. With both leagues still very competitive it is unclear who will be playing whom, but it may be the case that Ulster will be looking to do what Munster couldn’t and beat Wasps at the start of the next season.
