Ulster Stay On Top

A bonus point win was what was required to keep Ulster at the top of the Celtic League, and they delivered. With Michael Bradley resting a number of his players ahead of their Parker Pen Challenge Cup semi-final second leg next Sunday some had believed that Ulster would have an easy ride, but a determined Connacht put pay to that idea.

Connacht looked very dangerous, using their driving mauls to great effect, and looked like they could be the first team to give Ulster a home defeat this season. Connacht scored first and never let Ulster’s record bewilder them, and at the break they even led by 21 points to 15.

Ulster seemed to pull themselves together in the second half and a 73rd minute Scott Young try clinched the much needed bonus point for them. The score finished up with Ulster on 42 points to Connacht’s 21.
