Good Night For Irish in Celtic League
Leinster, Munster and Connacht all put an end to their recent bad form with Leinster and Munster winning and Connacht managing to get a draw against the second team in the league, Llanelli. Ulster remain on top and thanks to the result of the Connacht game, now go 4 points clear.
In Dublin Leinster took on the Borders. Borders were never going to be the toughest opposition in the league, but Leinster led throughout, and scored 4 tries to take the bonus point, and end their six defeat losing streak. The final score was Leinster 35 - Borders 12.
It could be argued that Connacht earned the result of the night. Connacht travelled to Wales to take on Llanelli, and a late penalty in injury time clinched the draw for them. The two teams were evenly matched throughout and that final Eric Elwood penalty brought the scores to 33-33, ensuring that Connacht kept up their reputation as Llanelli’s bogey team.
Munster meanwhile in Scotland ended their poor run in the Celtic League with a comfortable 37 points to 12 victory over Glasgow. Glasgow fans will feel agrived that some early decisions didn’t go their way, but Munster fans will be delighted that their team has managed to get back in form 2 weeks ahead of their European Cup clash with Stade Francais.
Ulster are starting to look like the only team that are going to win the competition, with another huge bonus point victory at Ravenhill. Their opposition Edinburgh were weakened with the absence of their Scottish internationals, but 2 tries from Ireland international Tyrone Howe and 3 more tries, meant that Ulster had an emphatic 37 points to nothing win.
