Another Bad Day in the Celtic League

Connacht’s draw today against Glasgow was the only result that spared the Irish provinces two weekends in a row entirely made up of defeats. With Leinster and Munster both losing last night, it was the turn of Connacht and Ulster to play today.

Connacht faced off against Glasgow in Galway, and looked good for the win, going in at half time leading by 25 points to 9, but in the second half Connacht could only manage to extend their lead by 3 points, while Glasgow scored an equalising try in the dying moments of the game. Connacht didn’t give up though, and had a last gasp drop goal attempt bounce off the post.

Ulster travelled to Wales, where they to were victims of a comeback. With 16 minutes to go, Ulster lead by 19 points to 12, but Gwent Dragons staged a huge comeback consisting of 2 tries and a penalty to win the game by 27 points to 19. This loss sees Gwent Dragons overtake Ulster at the top of the Celtic League to lead by a single point.

All in all the past two weeks have been particularly bad for the Irish teams in the Celtic League, with all of the provinces with the exception of Ulster looking like they are out of contention for the trophy.
