Recently retired Irish rugby legend Keith Wood, has said he has no regrets from calling time on his career, despite numerous offers to continue. In an interview in yesterdays Daily Mail he described his condition during the world cup.

“The games were taking an awful lot out of me and after the World Cup I was so shattered that I’d sleep for 12 hours and even then I’d still drop off every afternoon….If I’d played on, I’d have ended up crippling myself”

“The offer from league was to play for the summer. I burst out laughing. ‘You must be joking,’ I said. ‘My body’s had it’. They said, ‘Ah no, you’ll be fine’. I said, ‘like hell I will’”

“It was funny. They’d have kicked the s**t out of me just for fun. I would like to have played for the experience more than anything else, but I don’t regret it for a second.”
