Ulster coach Mark McCall has delayed naming his side for Friday night’s Heineken Cup opener against Cardiff at Ravenill until Thursday. McCall plans to give his injury-ravaged squad two further days to recover from numerous problems before announcing his team.

McCall has been hit hard with a number of long term injuries and the news that Matt Mustchin could be out for up to two months will have complicated his selection decisions even further.

Meanwhile the news coming out of Munster is more positive. Shaun Payne looks like he will be fit for the province’s first Heineken Cup match while the news on Donncha O’Callaghan’s injury is that it is responding well to treatment and he may be available for Saturday.
